Our Opportunity:

The Technology Infrastructure Systems group is looking for a Senior Security Engineer to shape the next generation IT security strategy and solutions for Charles Schwab & Co. The ideal candidate will have experience in large scale private and public cloud security design, including Hypervisor/VM architecture as well as containers. The role will be hands-on engineering and support of Schwab's security architectures applied to our Cloud initiatives.

What you’ll do:

We are looking for security engineers who are enthusiastic about learning new and existing technologies in order to provide exceptional security solutions. This position will be responsible for understanding cross-company business needs and designing solutions that meet business requirements while maintaining confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and systems. This talented individual will perform proof of concept (POC) testing for new technologies, translate architectural strategy into low level designs for operations consumption, implement and operationalize new systems, build proactive strategies for emerging threats through technological innovation, work with operations engineering teams to develop infrastructure support processes, and participate in problem management as needed. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly visible Schwab team providing technical leadership adhering to the architectural direction through quality security engineering.

  • Collaborate with Architecture to translate high level designs into operationally ready engineering through proof of concept testing.

  • Anticipate and respond to Operations Engineering teams’ new feature requests, functionality enhancements, and efficiencies of the existing applications

  • Measure engineering design through level of automation, ease of management, operational efficiency, health and performance monitoring, business continuity effectiveness, and consistent delivery.

  • Document system design and implementation process including capacity planning, configuration management, monitoring, inventory strategy, licensing and life cycle management, and alert response methods.

  • Collaborate with Operations Engineering to share best practices, review logic, and learn new technologies.

  • Train other technicians on the design and implementation of existing/new systems

  • Own the continual improvement and automation of processes and solutions for operations delivery or tool management

  • Develop policy and operational processes to insure high availability and service of entire technology stack, from front-end web traffic to back-end big-data infrastructure.

  • Peer with Corporate Security maintaining alignment with business and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in application and infrastructure projects to provide network, infrastructure, and cloud security planning and guidance

  • Collaborate with the development teams and technology leaders across Schwab technology on security development, best practices, and automation

  • Assessing and applying emerging technologies, practices, process, and strategy to improve efficiency and innovation.

What you have:

  • BS or MS in computer science or related technical field

  • 5+ years demonstrated real world experience in the cyber security field

  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services security

  • Ability to translate standard security frameworks into technology designs

  • Expert understanding of network technologies and security including, inter-networking concepts, load balancing and application filtering tools, network protocols, remote access technologies, and monitoring tools.

  • Expert understanding network and cloud security technologies including firewalls, intrusion detection (IDS) and prevention systems (IPS), anti-virus, identity awareness, and data loss prevention

  • Expert understanding in vulnerability management, threat modeling, and remediation through technology

  • Expert understanding of multiple operating systems security including Windows, Unix/Linux

  • Fluent in one or more scripting languages/tools (Java, Python).

  • Highly technical experience with large server and application deployments on virtualization platforms (thousands of systems spanning data centers/clouds).

  • Expert level in application/software development/deployment methodologies, processes, and testing automation (DevOps, CI/CD).

  • Successful track record of building distributed systems and reliable, fault tolerant software on virtualized environments.

  • Programmatic control of infrastructure elements (data model, API), integration frameworks and technologies.

  • Passion for and on-hands experience in automation.

  • Hands-on experience with Open Source PaaS frameworks such as CloudFoundry, Cloudify, OpenShift

  • Experience designing solutions with technologies like: MSSQL, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Azure, Google, and/or AWS cloud services.

  • Experience building High-Availability or High Traffic infrastructure strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of cryptographic solutions, tools, and algorithms. Coding experience with crypto a plus.

  • Strong understanding of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and Application Workloads in context of Data Center Architecture design

  • Able to systematically analyze and break-down systems into smaller components in order to better understand functionality

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate complex ideas and concepts

  • Strong ability to fully own, organize, and manage multiple projects at the same time

  • Security and Network certifications preferred
