Position Summary:

The Compensation Manager is responsible for working collaboratively within HR and across the organization to lead design, development and delivery of compensation programs that foster a great place to work. The responsibilities of this role include the delivery of high quality, timely, and accurate compensation reporting and analytics, execution of compensation programs, and oversight of other projects, as assigned.


  1. Contribute to the overall HR strategy for the company with specific emphasis on compensation philosophy,

    programs, and policies that enable the company’s strategic objectives
  2. Manage implementation of compensation programs, design creative solutions for specific compensation-

    related programs and provide guidance to line and retail management on compensation decisions, policies and guidelines, and job evaluation outcomes
  3. Monitor federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure company

  4. Monitor and provide advice on the day to day administration of compensation (executive, exempt, and

    non-exempt) programs and act as systems administrator for the incentive compensation software (CompXL)
  5. Analyze the effectiveness of existing compensation performance pay and incentive plans, policies,

    guidelines and procedures and recommend revisions and/or replacements that are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives
  6. Participate in and conduct both exempt and non-exempt employee salary surveys to ensure corporate

    compensation objectives are achieved; maintain and update market survey benchmark data files while partnering with the Talent Acquisition function to properly position employment offers
  7. Serve as the focal point and facilitator of the HR budget gathering expected expenditures, salary increase

    projections, and any anticipated additions to staff for the fiscal year
  8. Partner with our compensation consultant to develop materials for the Board of Directors and

    Compensation Committee, ensuring that materials are accurate, aligned with our philosophy and business strategy and easy to follow.
  9. Build a professional network that enables the company to stay at the forefront of compensation strategy

    and trends and to learn and benefit from best practices

Working Relationships:

This leader will work closely with members of the Human Resources, Finance, IT, Legal and Store Operations teams, as well as other internal departments and some external contacts. Interactions with all of these groups will be via email, phone, and in person and will require the leader to inform, teach, persuade, and align others.


Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree

Preferred Education: Masters degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field

Minimum Experience: 5-7 years in Compensation

Demonstrated competency with HRIS systems, MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Learning Agility: must have a passion and aptitude for learning, with a specific emphasis on new technologies

Analytical Skills: ability to ask critical questions, analyze large amounts of data, find insights and draw conclusions that help the company take actions that deliver impact

Communication Skills: Demonstrated ability to translate data into easy to understand findings and communicate clearly and appropriately for the specific audience

Critical Thinking: Must look at numbers, trends, and data and come to new conclusions based on the findings and translate those findings into value-added information for business managers

Attention to Detail: Data is precise; must be vigilant in the analysis to come to correct conclusions and in related execution to ensure accurate outcomes

Preferred Experience: 7-10 years in Compensation

Licenses/Certifications: CCP preferred

Soft Skills: Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment

Demonstrates a strong level of initiative and accountability
