EMA Unit Manager in United States
The unit manger has 24 hour accountability for the complete operations of the assigned unit. This includes directing the nursing staff regarding appropriate clinical practices to ensure quality care to residents. A primary responsibility is mentoring and educating nurses, working and providing direction to physicians and other medical professionals, and serving as a resource to all staff within the unit regarding the quality of services provided . These professionals may also provide hands-on care to residents along with the unit nurses to ensure quality care. They have full responsibility for screening, hiring, managing and evaluating all assigned unit staff. They develop and maintain the nursing operational budget. This may include purchasing supplies and equipment as needed. Ensuring state and federal regulatory compliance of the unit is also required, and this involves working with other members of the interdisciplinary team to maintain overall clinical performance of the community. Finally, the Unit Manager assures compliance with EMA clinical standards, protocols and policies and is required to function as a member of the EMA community including participating in and/or chairing committees and attendance at EMA meetings (which may or may not be on site).
- Direct reports include RN, LPN, CGNA, CMT, CMA, and Restorative Aide.
_Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities**:_**
A. Model the transforming culture of Integrace by demonstrating knowledge and awareness of the mission, vision, and values through leadership practices and decisions. Consistently reveal Integrace's guiding principles and supporting behaviors of the transforming culture to all associates, visitors, and residents.
B. Direct the day-to-day operations of the Unit to include:
Administer and coordinate operational activities of assigned clinical unit within Nursing Services; make decisions on specific operating problems and issue instructions in accordance with Integrace policies and procedures.
Plan, develop and implement goals and objectives of assigned unit in conjunction with the Director of Nursing; evaluate program objectives on a continual basis; suggest operational changes to existing policies and procedures as appropriate.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor costs and expenditures of program activities and authorize expenditures of program funds.
Establish and maintain communication between Clinical Unit and physicians, nursing staff and other health care professionals regarding unit specific policies and procedures.
Plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices and keep employees abreast of current standards; develop, in conjunction with others, appropriate training and employee orientation and education programs.
Procurement and inventory of supplies and equipment.
Makes changes in unit colleagues' work schedules and ensures adequate coverage for each shift. Informs Staffing Manager of necessary adjustments.
Administer various Human Resource actions including, but not limited to: hiring, coaching, training, counseling, performance management and termination of staff.
Compile and maintain records, reports and documentation of unit activities to be used for program evaluation and revision.
Respond to resident and family concerns and complaints.
Provide excellent customer service at all levels of staff, residents, family members, and health care partners within the community and the community at large.

_Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:_**
Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in the State of Maryland.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and regulations of long term care.
3 years of management/supervisor experience in long term care.
Effective supervisory and delegation skills in order to lead and direct nursing staff.
Knowledge of human resources procedures related to hiring, retaining and promoting nursing staff.
Ability to effectively and efficiently complete goals
Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with residents and staff
Ability to manage and support departmental and FTE budgets
Skillful in use of technology to accomplish goals and ensure program growth
Skillful in the maintenance of clinical record.
