Job Description

A new role in the service team for Guernsey’s rated catastrophe reinsurers, a huge growth area for both Aon and Guernsey. Undertaking proportional and non-proportional treaty and facultative reinsurance contract reviews, and supervising the capture of detailed and accurate data in respect of reinsurance contracts underwritten. Liaising with brokers, underwriters and actuarial advisors to develop a detailed understanding of both contracts underwritten and claims developing.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. To critically evaluate complex clauses within proportional and non-proportional treaty and facultative reinsurance policies, and conduct full policy wording reviews for renewals to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.

  2. Review of contractual agreements between reinsuring parties including but not limited to reinsurance trust agreements, variable quota share reinsurance agreements and interests and liabilities agreements.

  3. Draft and review contract wordings for a complex retrocession programme.

  4. Draft and reviewing mid-term slip and policy endorsements.

  5. Operate in a supporting role for the claims function, specifically as a point of reference for assessing policy coverage and indemnity to ensure all claim payments are justified. Reviewing retrocession recoveries for excess of loss, proportional and facultative accounts.

  6. Liaising with actuarial advisors to ensure the accuracy of reserving and correct classification of contracts.

  7. Design and production of detailed management information.

  8. Implement a disciplined approach to controls and ensuring full compliance with procedures manuals.

  9. Adopt, operate and maintain a policy administration IT system.

Experience

Previous experience within a London market reinsurance broking or underwriting environment, specifically working with quota share and excess of loss treaty and facultative programmes.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Thorough understanding of reinsurance and retrocession structures, contracts and clauses.
  2. Excellent skills with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  3. High degree of confidentiality.
  4. Good all-round communicator at all levels.
  5. A team player with a positive working attitude, enthusiasm and adaptability to change
  6. Attention to detail.
  7. Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks effectively.
