Summary

The 2nd shift skilled Machinist works in conjunction with other members of the Torch Machining department to ensure production schedules and quality standards are met with little downtime through proper set up of CNC machines (Stars, Hardinges, Eubamas, Nakamuras & Robodrills) and manual machines (Davenports and ACMEs). This position requires strong machining abilities, attention to detail, and strong leadership skills. A detailed orientated, self-motivated, problem solver that utilizes a strong work ethic for a 350+ union facility inChilton, WIis required. Starting pay various based on skill, ability and previous experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner

  • Ability to work in a team environment focusing on meeting Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost standards

  • Advanced set up ability to set up and operate multi-axis lathes and mills

  • Interpret blueprints and machine parts to specification while upholding tight tolerances (will require use of caliper, micrometer, etc.)

  • Perform in process checks to assure the quality of the product being manufactured

  • Must be able to work independently; will be responsible for specific or cross-functional tasks, based on equipment

  • Inspect finished product for completeness and conformance to all quality assurance guidelines

  • Sets up, troubleshoots, and makes advanced adjustments to machines as needed to maintain good production and quality

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects throughout the facility including various automation projects

  • Participate in safety processes and initiatives

  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed

  • Assist others as needed

  • Maintain a clean work area

  • Complete paperwork accurate and in a timely manner

  • Other duties as assigned by manager

  • Perform all duties in the spirit of Our Philosophy and in accordance to legal, ethical and contractual practices

Critical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of machine repair

  • Possess good problem solving skills, computer skills, and safety practices

  • Advanced blueprint reading skills, math skills, and in-process inspection skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to measure, read, write and document work

  • Must be able to understand and convert both metric and English measurements

  • Must be proficient at using micrometers, dial calipers, shop gages and depth gages to inspect parts and verify dimensions

  • Must be able to maintain tolerances and finishes to engineering and manufacturing specifications

  • Ability to sustain a steady work pace over an entire work day

  • The ability to multitask and operate multiple pieces of equipment concurrently

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to establish working relationships quickly

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to drive resolution

  • Comfortable performing a wide range of responsibilities, from thinking broadly to executing detailed tasks

  • Proven ability to effectively work in a detailed, fact based environment

  • Ability to read, understand, and edit G-code programming
