PopCap Games, Inc. Game Designer in United States
Summary:As a Game Designer, you will work closely with the Senior Game Designer to move PopCap Europe towards the creation of new and original content based both on existing PopCap IP as well as brand new IP on a variety of smartphone and tablet devices as well as on social networks and other emerging platforms.
Manage the design process of one or more (concurrent) title through the entire life cycle from high concept, internal pitch, green light, completed GDD, through development to launch and then post-launch (where the title is to be run as a service).
Deliver innovative and engaging designs within the scope of the original IP, the technical limitations of the target platforms and the constraints of the project schedule, all the while maintaining PopCap’s standard of quality.
When working with an existing PopCap IP, retain the original IP’s core brand values and game balance/experience during the adaptation process.
Where appropriate, define the requirements for, and manage the creation of, mock-ups and prototypes of game play mechanics, menus and user interfaces.
Be responsible for clear and concise game design creation and communication with team members, brand champions, and senior management throughout the PopCap organisation.
Consider broad, long-term design strategies/roadmaps beyond individual products or platforms; with specific focus on connected and social features.
Help build excitement about the game throughout production to the wider PopCap community both internal and, where appropriate, external.
Be comfortable taking and using constructive feedback through review processes both internal and external.
Provide critique in a fair, balanced and constructive manner; preferably with suggestions as to how things can be improved.
Remain current on industry trends including new game genres/types, new game design methods and techniques, emerging platforms especially smartphone, tablet and social networking.
Look for ways to extend PopCap’s IP’s to take advantage of platform technologies (e.g. new smartphone devices, tablets and social networking platforms) and emerging game trends including e.g. asynchronous/synchronous multi-player, social gaming and location based gaming.
Become a ‘brand expert’ on all PopCap’s existing IPs and continue to stay updated on all new developments surrounding each core PopCap game including new iterations, versions, platforms sequels etc.
