The Project Engineer at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, WA will be part of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Department, and is responsible for planning and directing projects for design, installation and modification of capital equipment and facilities. This includes oversight the direction of internal and external resources to insure projects are completed on time and on budget. This position will have responsibility in all of ConMet’s global manufacturing sites. This effort will include:
Manufacturing Processes: Foundry, Casting, Plastic Molding, Machining, Assembly and Material Handling
Product design support: Plastic, Aluminum and Ferrous components and assemblies
Manufacturing Site Support: Process development and optimization as well as equipment design and installation.
Vendor / Supplier interface
Implementation of Lean Manufacturing Practices
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Take on assignments that relate to new or existing manufacturing operations located globally. Responsibilities may include plant layout, assembly and machining processes, equipment procurement, plant ramp up, component supplier evaluation etc.
Strong collaboration with local plant management and technical staff.
Develop and/or modify plant and equipment layouts.
Utilize Lean and 6Sigma tools for process improvement, including standard work, value stream mapping, SIPOC, DMAIC and various forms of Root Cause Analysis.
Develop and design robust manufacturing concepts to simplify/improve manufacturing processes to ensure best-practice and lean manufacturing concepts to achieve or exceed quality and customer expectations.
Establish and maintain equipment specifications and performance requirements for manufacturing equipment
Create and maintain process flow documentation including process flow charts, characteristic matrix, process illustrations, PFMEA, SOP, process sheets, visual aids, capacity and utilization charts as required.
Support all APQP phase deliverables in support of Advanced Manufacturing responsibility.
Maintain project timelines and deliverables to support internal and external customers.
Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, investigate and determine root cause for process complaints, quality rejections and failures, formulate corrective actions, lead troubleshooting process and promote safety and cleanliness throughout the company.
Support quoting and acquisition process for new business and engineering changes.
Support all downstream aspects of manufacturing processes from our production facilities though our end customer final assembly.
Candidate must be willing to, and have the flexibility to provide support for a continuous operations production environment
Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time and work extended hours based on customer demand and production schedule.
Education and Experience: (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a production environment.
Strong Project Management skills – PMI or PMBOK certification is a plus.
Must have a demonstrated track record of planning and executing manufacturing projects with increasing scope and magnitude and the ability to collaborate across functional departmental lines.
Experience in lean manufacturing, setup reduction, capital procurement, automation, statistical process control, project management, process development, and material flow
Yellow or Green Belt level Certification in 6 Sigma or Lean Manufacturing. Black Belt a plus.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD/and ProE, or similar CAD systems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Effective communication skills with all team members and customer representatives.
Strong computer skills in MS Office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (Preferred)
Manufacturing process knowledge including Plastic molding, ferrous and non-ferrous foundries, machining, robotic and manual material handling, and various assembly methods along with general understanding of foundry operations, process flow, gages, in-process verification and error proofing.
Technical Skills: Possesses, acquires, and maintains the technical/professional expertise required to do the job effectively and to create client/customer solutions.
Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems
Adaptability: Adapts well to changes in assignments and priorities; adapts behavior or work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles; approaches change positively and adjusts behaviors accordingly.
Ability to speak Spanish and is a plus, but not required
