The Law Society of Upper Canada Senior Systems Support Analyst, Information Technology, Corporate Services in Toronto, Ontario
The Senior Systems Support Analyst is responsible for taking a primary role in the planning, development, implementation, deployment and support of the Red Hat Linux infrastructure, Law Society’s middleware application servers, whether physical, virtual, or cloud-based. The individual in this position will take a leading role in implementation of all new applications on the Oracle WebLogic and RedHat Openshift platforms, as well as be responsible for post-implementation application support on the new platform. Additionally, the individual in this position will provide monitoring and support of the existing IBM WebSphere Portal platform. This role will also require this individual to have development knowledge with HTML, Perl, Java, SQL and Linux shell scripting, and a good understanding of the importance of integration between the development and the operations groups. The Senior Systems Support Analyst will be integral to the planned transition from on-site systems to the use of off-site managed services / public cloud.
A university degree (preferred) or college diploma in Computer Science, Math or Engineering or equivalent, coupled with relevant, ongoing education in middleware application servers, computer hardware and software, system virtualization, and software development. Certification in Red Hat Linux, and/or VMware software is desirable.
A minimum of 8 years’ experience providing design, planning, implementation and support in a multi-platform physical and virtual environments.
Detailed knowledge of current trends and developments in information systems and their practical applications, as they relate to scope of responsibilities.
Expert knowledge of Oracle WebLogic and IBM WebSphere middleware platforms.
Experience with management of Red Hat Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) software.
Familiarity with Red Hat Openshift platform.
Knowledge of DevOps and experience with Jira, Git/Bitbucket, Nexus and Crucible development tools support.
Expert knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Satellite and Identity Management platforms.
Thorough understanding of the following: TCP/IP and core Ethernet switching, Red Hat Linux security, DNS, DHCP, virtualization, systems/network security, VMWare virtualization, web site management.
Experience with the use of Azure public cloud infrastructure as a service platform.
Familiarity with application development lifecycle, systems/network management tools (i.e., Solarwinds Orion), remote access and connectivity, all within a multi-platform virtualized client server environment.

Client / Customer Service Delivery
In conjunction with other Infrastructure & Security team members and the larger Information Technology team, provides effective, timely responses to Law Society corporate computing needs, and takes a lead role in detecting and resolving associated technical issues and problems.
Maintains mission critical systems used by Law Society staff, members and public.
Leads implementation of the new infrastructure and development platforms based on RedHat Openshift that will be used for future enterprise mission critical applications.
Evaluates and implements new and enhanced server hardware and software in support of corporate computing services, ensures the optimal integration of those systems, and recommends system upgrades as required.
Develops and maintains system security protocols as well as backups and disaster recovery procedures for servers and systems under direct control.
Monitors usage and client requirements.
Conducts capacity planning and effectiveness analyses, and participates in the expansion of the Law Society service network.
Provides expert systems analysis and administration for Red Hat Linux-based middleware platforms, including WebLogic, Openshift and WebSphere. Develops and ensures the optimal integration between the development and operations groups with regard to the secure and controlled promotion of applications from development to production.
Provides leadership in the transition from on-site systems to the use of off-site managed services / private cloud services.
Provides continual and focused attention on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the applications and data hosted on the Law Society’s middleware platforms.
Special Projects and Initiatives
Works with other IT management, team members and client departments, leading and contributing to the implementation of projects.
Leads complex infrastructure projects that may require the leading of team members and/or contractors.
Meeting with vendors to discuss ongoing and future projects, working on system architecture/design and making sure there is compliance with licensing terms etc.
Researches, quantifies and analyzes technology, making recommendations regarding impacts to Law Society IT infrastructure.
Remains abreast of new products and tools via technical journals, Internet sources, conferences & courses, and networks with other professionals.
Provides recommendations and guidance to IT management on the strategic directions and use Red Hat software and middleware technology.
Monitors the performance of Law Society infrastructure technology providing feedback and recommendations for increased efficiency and effectiveness to the Manager, Infrastructure & Security.
Works closely with the Manager, Infrastructure & Security, to provide input into the annual capital budget.
Participates in the RFP/RFQ process in the preparation of requirements and the evaluation of proposals.
Evaluates on-going operational processes and recommends new processes and/or technologies to reduce operating costs while still delivering services that meet the corporate computing goals and objectives.
Works closely with other members of the Information Technology team in the identification, diagnosis, isolation and resolution of complex problems and implementations.
Develops and shares expertise regarding Law Society operating systems and hardware, and keeps team members up to date regarding systems issues, problems and initiatives.
Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of systems and network technology, and shares expertise with the team in order to proactively plan Information Technology initiatives.
Mentors and or/provides leadership to other members of the team.
Leads and acts as a key contributor to client department teams, facilitating needs identification, promoting the effective use of information technology solutions to maximize efficiency.
