We focus on creating a workplace where people enjoy the challenge of their career, create and engage in best practices and are treated with respect.

In the Operating Room (OR) , the interdisciplinary team provides care to patients who require surgical intervention. Staff in the OR provide services to patients requiring surgery on an inpatient or outpatient basis depending on patient needs.

In the OR, nurses assume one of three positions - circulating nurse, induction nurse or scrub nurse. The circulating nurse directs and co-ordinates all perioperative nursing activities for an individual OR. He or she is responsible for maintaining knowledge of procedures, asepsis and the use and care of surgical equipment and supplies. The induction nurse´s main function is to support the patient during induction and emergent during anesthesia and to ensure patient safety. The scrub nurse plays an active role in anticipating the surgical team´s requirement during the surgical intervention.

Continuing knowledge development is supported by a number of initiatives including weekly unit inservices, annual competency updates, grand rounds, mentorship and certification courses.
