Malt-O-Meal Maintenance Techn St Ansgar in St. Ansgar, Iowa
Perform mechanical, electrical, and electronic maintenance / repairs on production and facilities equipment that maximizes production uptime and performance. Participate in all associated programs to improve product quality, process efficiencies, and related continuous improvement projects. Support, implement, and maintain food safety and quality practices as required through SQF. Technician will be responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all plant safety, food safety, quality and environmental practices.
Education: 1-2 years vocational training in industrial maintenance or related technical field.
Experience: 3-5 years experience in plant production equipment maintenance in areas of mechanical, electrical, and plc / controls. Experience in a food processing environment preferred.
Must be able to read and understand English.
Ability to understand the theory of operation and maintenance of a wide range of food processing and packaging equipment.
Ability to effectively troubleshoot, analyze, and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems across all areas and types of equipment within the plant.
Knowledge and ability to operate machine tools, power tools, hand tools, test equipment/meters, welding equipment, boom lifts, and forklifts.
Ability to read and understand blue prints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Ability to troubleshoot and manipulate programmable logic controllers (PLC) and servo systems.
Knowledge of statistical process controls.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and use/perform standard computer functions to include: data entry, email, report generating systems, CMMS packages and databases.
Good interpersonal communication skills and team skills.
Ability to effectively interact and communicate with outside contractors and vendors.
Ability to work closely with other team members to share responsibilities and solve problems.
Ability to work alone and be self directed or work in teams.
Manual dexterity for delicate electronic work.
Ability to operate processing and packaging equipment.

Must wear company-issued uniforms (snap-front shirt & pants) and required PPE (bump-cap, hair net, beard net, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, steel-toed shoes, arc flash gear, etc.)
Flexibility to work overtime and/or on alternate shifts if needed.
Frequently stoop, squat, twist, reach, climb stairs and stand while performing job duties.
Ability to lift and carry 75-100 lbs, repetitively lift and carry 20-50 lbs
Ability to distinguish between sound or vibrations for equipment repair and colors for electrical wiring work.
JOB Duties / Responsibilities:
Essential Job Activities:
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems of all plant equipment including mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems of plant and packaging/processing equipment such as wiring, circuits, fuses, switches, electrical installations, transformers, motors, and AC & DC motor drives.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic problems of plant and packaging/processing equipment such as programmable controllers, circuit boards, install electronic components, computer programming.
Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment, check and replace items, and conduct equipment inspections.
Analyze equipment breakdowns to help determine root cause and collaborate with others in maintenance, operations, and engineering to implement long term fixes to prevent recurrence.
Coordinate and collaborate with other maintenance techs and team members to pinpoint equipment abnormalities for further tracking and analysis.
Work with engineering manger and maintenance techs on troubleshooting and correcting process problems.
Effectively interact with team members and management through the engagement process in support of company goals.
Works with the team in a manner which supports continuous improvement and change
Secondary Job Activities:
Provide calibration and repair support for ICV Program.
Provide maintenance and operator training to ensure proper use of equipment.
Design and fabricate replacement parts or equipment
Keep track of parts inventory and purchase and/or request replacement parts when necessary. Ensure parts are installed in equipment when received.
Perform building maintenance and repairs including HVAC, roofs/windows/doors, lights, and forklifts.
Keep all work and shop areas clean so as to avoid injury and/or sanitation problems.
Use computerized maintenance system for equipment history & parts.
Provide input into mechanical, electrical and electronic designs of equipment.
Perform any other assigned duties as assigned by management.
Work in all plant areas and outside the plant.
Exposure to extreme heat and cold, humidity, fumes, gases, odors and dust.
Exposure to high noise levels.
Work around moving machinery that is electrically and mechanically hazardous.
Also work with highly combustible or potentially explosive equipment.
Work at heights up to 35ft.
Must identify and solve mechanical, electrical and electronic plant or equipment problems.
Provide input into engineering designs, e.g. electrical or electronic systems or changes-- practicality and convenience.
Works under the supervision of the Plant Engineering Manager.
Responsible for solving mechanical, electrical and electronic problems of the plant facility and production equipment in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
Responsible for maintenance during assigned times.
Works rotating shifts and weekends.
The Plant Engineering Manager serves as back up to the Maintenance Technicians.
