Position Description: Equipment Operator
To maintain and operate terminal equipment in a safe and efficient manner while unloading/loading customer’s bulk products into/out of barge, rail car, or truck.
Job Duties Required:
The ability to operate the Docksider cement barge unloader, bucket elevator for unloading cement cars, and mobile equipment such as skid steer loaders, forklifts, cranes or backhoes, Track mobiles, and truck loading loaders in a dry bulk terminal
Maintain and operate the following equipment:
Transfer equipment (bucket elevators, drags, and conveyors)
Skid steer loaders (Bobcat-Case-New Holland)
Front end articulating loaders (Volvo L80)
Trackmobile (4650 & 9TM)
American Crane, Sennobogan and Liebherr
35 ton off-road truck (CAT 769)
Ability to understand written bills of lading and similar documents for proper loading/unloading of the customers products.
Ability to work safe and follow Kinder Morgan and OSHA guidelines.
Understand basic safe use of shop tools.
Having the ability to learn and maintain: High pressure air compressors, air dryers, low pressure air compressors, blowers, remote control cranes, PLC operating equipment, and vacuum systems.
Learning the operations and maintenance of the bucket elevator and related equipment for cement rail car unloading.
Having the ability to maintain communication with customers concerning their operational needs.
Achieve and maintain a basic understanding of how all the operating systems function/interact and independently perform effective trouble shooting during equipment malfunctions.
Startup and shutdown of equipment.
Learn to perform annual and other scheduled maintenance on cement unloading equipment and auxiliary equipment.
Understand OSHA safety rules and work in compliance with the Kinder Morgan safety standards, policies, and procedures.
Identify and report any and all unsafe working conditions.
Ability to read and understand equipment startup procedures, operation procedures, shutdown procedures, and maintenance manuals.
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards and procedures
Experience operations bulk storage, conveying and processing equipment.
Experience operating mobile equipment including skid loaders, forklifts, heavy haul mobile equipment.
Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions; majority of the time will be working outside.
The ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to work as a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and take on other duties as assigned.
Have the willingness and ability to cross train into other areas of the terminal, example: Operate the grain leg, operate a front end loader safely and efficiently (loading trucks and pushing product), operate a forklift; learn other process in the terminal, examples: cement terminal and vermiculite processing terminal.
Ability to take initiative and work with co-workers to accomplish defined goals in a fast paced environment.

Mandatory drug screen and background check upon hire.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, cold, heat, rain, etc.
Ability to walk up ladders, walk on barges and rail cars.
Utilize hand tools while working on above ground while wearing personal fall protection.
Hours of operation fluctuate depending on the customer demand. Workload is dependent upon the seasonal applications.
The above posted times are approximate; they will vary depending on work load. Overtime is mandatory when posted.
Able to lift as much as 50 lbs. as high as waist level.
Must be able to climb ladders and 150 feet of stairs throughout the day.
Must not have a fear of water.
Must not have a fear of heights.
The ability to swim is a plus.
Ability to work in cement dust.
Ability to work inside a cement product barge.
Ability to work in confined space; dusty and dirty environment.
