The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has a 50% FTE Statistical Research Associate (SRA) I position available through the Cancer Prevention Department. Specifically, this SRA I position is under the direction of Dr. Polly Newcomb within the Division of Public Health Sciences at Fred Hutch. Dr. Newcomb is a leading epidemiologist in the fields of cancer genetics, etiology, screening, and survival. Her research program investigates the causes, treatments, and outcomes of colon cancer using large, population-based studies, clinical trials, and collaboration with local medical centers. Most recently, she has focused on germline and genetics of colorectal neoplasms in sporadic and familial disease in relation to risk and clinical outcomes. We are flexible on the FTE, if the applicant is willing to take on additional (administrative) tasks.

This is a part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) role. The SRA I’s duties will allow participation along the entire research continuum, from proposal submission to dissemination of results.

  • Perform power calculations for grant submissions

  • Work with other statisticians and researchers on the design and analysis of large public health cancer studies

  • Help analyze epidemiologic, genetic (including germline GWAS), and molecular data from several sources using statistical software

  • Conduct data harmonization and quality control procedures

  • Prepare data dictionaries and datasets for sharing, including upload to dbGaP or other public access databases

  • Create written summaries, figures, and tables of results for use in grant applications, PowerPoint presentations, posters, study reports, and scientific papers

  • Assist in the preparation, editing, formatting, and submission of manuscripts, protocols, and grant applications

  • Update the research database for accurate tracking of data and sample inventory

  • Maintain participant confidentiality by following all relevant federal, institutional, and study guidelines and research protocols

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics

  • Experience using statistical software, like STATA, SAS, or R

  • Minimum six months of related experience

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including some background in scientific writing

  • Background in database management a plus (SQL and/or Access)

  • Experience in the analysis and design of public health studies is desirable
