Scope of Job

The UTRGV School of Medicine Department of Surgery is recruiting a Colon and Rectal Surgeon. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong clinical capabilities in the surgical care of patients with diseases of the colon and rectum. Responsibilities will include teaching, clinical and/or basic research as well as patient care. A track record of academic productivity is required, as the candidate will be involved actively in the research and academic mission of the Department. Academic rank will be awarded commensurate with experience and academic credentials.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must be Board Certified in Surgery and have successfully completed a Colon & Rectal Surgery Fellowship, be eligible for a Texas Medical License and qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at the UTRGV School of Medicine and appropriate hospital staff appointments. The successful candidate should have a proven record of clinical excellence, experience in an educational environment, and outstanding communication skills. Demonstration of strong commitment to the education of residents and medical students is essential.

MD/DO or equivalent, Board Certified in Surgery and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Colon & Rectal Surgery.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
