New York Edge Nutrition Manager in Queens, New York

Summary:

The Nutrition Manager will specifically support the delivery of nutrition programming throughout New York Edge’s After School Programs. This position will assist in the development of nutrition and wellness programs as well as conduct site visits and monitor compliance. The Nutrition Manager will also be the linkage between wellness and sports within the Sports and Wellness Department, by helping support sports activities and incorporating wellness in sporting activities. This position will help organize wellness special events, supporting both individual New York Edge programs and organization wide projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop health and wellness curricula and materials for staff and participants.

  • Conduct site evaluations for wellness programs to improve the effective delivery of programming in elementary, middle and high schools throughout the five boroughs.

  • Supervise two health and wellness coordinators.

  • Lead trainings for sites on health and wellness programs.

  • Develop wellness specific action plans.

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the youth during and wellness programming.

  • Complete monthly reports and compile data as needed.

  • Develop and organize workshops and special events for New York Edge participants.

  • Promote and maintain communication with After-School Program Directors and Sports and Wellness department personnel regarding calendar of events.

  • Coordinate worksite wellness and staff engagement activities.

  • Support sports teams

  • Assist in the recruitment and placement of wellness staff.

  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Sports and Wellness.

Qualifications:

  • College degree in Nutrition or Public Health.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in nutrition based program implementation for youth.

  • 1-2 years of supervision experience.

  • Preferred- someone with a sports background or life experience in sports that aligns.

  • Preferred experience with NYCDOE or Public School System.

  • Strong communication skills (presentation and written), leadership abilities, flexibility and outstanding problem solving skills.

  • Preferred- someone with a sports background or life experience in sports that aligns.

  • During the school year after-school hours can span from 2:50pm-6:50pm, with most programs running from 3pm-6pm, the candidate should be able to work late afternoons and/or evenings at least 1-2 times a week.

  • Ability to travel by car or public transit throughout five boroughs and Westchester.

At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
