UPMC Passavant is hiring a casual Patient Care Technicianto support the4 South atour McCandless location.
Patient care staff in department work on a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage. Availability for all shifts, including some weekends and holidays, is expected.
The Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician are valued steps in the UPMC nursing support career ladder, with opportunities for upward advancement into lead and management roles. Many support staff may seek to use the knowledge and skill they gain in this position to launch a career in nursing, advanced practice, health care administration, therapy, or another related field.
Assumesresponsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.

Performsthe UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose,weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care) AND atleast 4 of the following BU identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG,simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladderscan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.
Providesinstruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN.May apply, monitor and remove patient restraints as per physician orhospital protocol.
Providespatient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities ofdaily living. Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonarytherapies. Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reportschanges in patient status.
Requestsassistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.
Strictlyadheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care andhospital related information. Complies with safety policies and proceduresincluding standard precautions.
Suggestsand supports changes within the department.
Supportsdepartment based projects and quality initiatives.
Takesaction to improve knowledge, skills and performance.
Highschool diploma or equivalent.
Knowledgeof body mechanics and transfer techniques.
Abilityto effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
CertifiedNursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
EmergencyMedical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT orParamedic program preferred.
Accessto medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to thenurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
· CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
· Act 34 Criminal Clearance
· Basic Life Support
· Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
