UnitedHealth Group Addiction Medicine Physician - Nashville, TN in Nashville, Tennessee
TeamMD is a new model of care focused on transforming care for high-risk Medicare and Medicaid patients. We are currently expanding our team in Tennessee, and we are looking for a practicing Addiction Medicine Physician Specialist who can bring compassion, behavioral health and addiction expertise, energy, and focus to this work.
In this role, you will serve as a treating physician for individuals with the disease of addiction, of those with substance-related health conditions, and of individuals who show unhealthy use of substances such as nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications, and illicit drugs. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to engage resources and strategies to address medical, behavioral, functional, and social barriers to care. The successful candidate will be involved in program development and oversight for this clinic-based (1) medication assisted treatment and (2) outpatient programs for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness.

Provide initial evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support for individuals with complex addiction and substance related health conditions
Lead clinical team focused on recovery or persons showing unhealthy use of substances including nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications, and illicit drugs
Assess risk potential, provide and supervise addiction interventions, triage phone calls, and prescribe appropriate medications as needed
Complete full and appropriate documentation to support professional billing for services
Provide education regarding illness and prognosis to assist with clarification of patient and family goals of care and support development of a comprehensive care plan
Engage with community-based primary care and behavioral health providers to advocate for appropriate treatment and services when needed
Provide input to organizational quality initiatives and develop ongoing staff education
Develop guidelines and strategies to identify and manage complex addiction-related illnesses, and co-occurring service needs for TeamMD patients
Participate in collaborative multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews to optimize clinical integration, efficiency, and effectiveness of service delivery
Board Certified in Addiction Medicine
Active and unrestricted medical license as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) within Tennessee
Current resident of Tennessee
2 or more years of clinical practice, at least 1 of which is in Addiction Medicine
Current DEA licensure and prescriptive authority in state where applicable
Current certification to prescribe narcotic drugs in schedule III, IV, V, or combination of such drugs to patients for maintenance or detoxification treatment under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 (DATA 2000)
Ability to work with diverse care teams in a variety of settings
Effective time management and communication skills
Experience managing complex psychiatric conditions
Computer literate and experience with Electronic Medical Records
Willingness to travel up to 50% for face to face meetings throughout the state of Tennessee
Excellent administrative, organizational and verbal skills
Effective communication skills
Experience working with geriatric, Medicaid, and/or Medicare populations
Experience supervising or providing supervisory oversight to clinical staff
