Summary

The Supervisory MSA assigns and evaluates the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing MSA's activities.

Responsibilities

Uses VHA Directives for: VHA Outpatient Scheduling Processes and Procedures, processing for managing patients with impatient demand exceeds current clinic capacity, priority scheduling for outpatient medical services for service-connected Veterans and priority for outpatient medical services. Uses VA regulations, Systems Redesign Principles, local Medical Center Memoranda /policies, and standard operating procedures.

Provides information to subordinates pertaining to eligibility for VA medical care, priorities for care, release of information, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) laws, and Non-VA Care Coordination Program. Must have knowledge of and be able to provide information about VA revenue cycle and programs to patients regarding insurance data collection and revenue collection.

Interfaces with multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC fax applications, numerous VistA applications, Microsoft Excel, or comparable spreadsheet program, Microsoft Word or comparable word processing program.

Compiles readily available data from prescribed sources; knowledge of the organization to search records, files, or electronic databanks to locate information needed, and to verify information given. Familiarity with one or more established automated systems to correct, and retrieve factual information, such as VSSC.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: * United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

  1. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.

  2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with all healthcare professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.

  3. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training.

  4. Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs.

Physical Requirements:Must be able to operate a computer terminal and be able to manage multiple activities at one time. Work is generally sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items. Work Environment: The work may be stressful due to the accelerated pace for several hours at a time during peak clinic hours or on days that have a large volume of clinic activity.
