Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:This position requires assessment, coordination, and prioritization of care of a patient upon HPMT staff arrival. Responsibilities include quickly coordinating care of patients in order to expedite treatment and /or transportation to the appropriate receiving facility. Communicating with other medical staff, EMS and police personnel, as necessary, and observing, participating and managing overall patient care to facilitate care and resolve issues or potential problems.

The EMT may provide work direction to other basic care providers; perform and document dependent functions such as carrying out EMS Medical Directors medical orders and performing diagnostic and treatment procedures; providing a safe environment; coordinate, communicate, interpret, and explain patient care services to the patient, family, EMS personnel and health professionals.The EMT will determine the most appropriate and safest way of transporting patient to the destination. The EMT will demonstrate safe driving skills, and communicate with dispatch and/or receiving facility in a professional manner.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


High school diploma or GED.


Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • Registered EMT in the state of MN through the EMSRB.

  • Possesses current CPR certification.

  • Possesses a current driver’s license with a clean driving record containing no more than 2 moving violations in the last 2 year period.

  • Must meet MNDOT requirements:

  • Drug free

  • Clean driving record

  • Clear criminal background

  • PAT, Abuse prevention, Defensive driving, and basic first aid trained/certified.

  • Pass physical examination

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current Basic Life Support practices and techniques.

  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and medical intervention techniques.

  • Skilled in using emergency care related equipment and devices.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with medical personnel, family members, and co-workers.

  • Ability to develop and maintain emergency driving techniques.

  • Ability to work in a high stress environment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective patient transferring skills and lift 150 pounds



Some college level courses preferred.


One year of clinical experience in an emergency medical setting preferred.
