- Under general supervision this position will contribute to the overall management of the Financial Aid office. Ensure compliance with State & Federal laws, regulations and mandates. Provide oversight to ensure accuracy and timeliness of day-to day processing.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance, Training and Quality Assurance:
Plan and develop internal program audits that evaluate the accuracy of information and internal controls, the degree of internal and external risk, the potential exposure and the degree of compliance with all applicable internal and external guidelines, policies, and regulations.
Develop and provide training to financial aid staff.
Manage and maintain consumer information in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
Keep current on federal and state financial aid laws, regulations, and legislation.
Program Management and Processing:
Coordinate athletic awards in accordance with NCAA financial aid compliance requirements.
Coordinate veteran’s benefits with other financial aid programs and serve as financial aid liaison with Veteran’s Programs Office.
Coordinate Cal Grant and state grant programs.
Manage in daily processing activities, e.g. data entry, federal verification, disbursement exceptions, repackaging and troubleshooting auto-packaging exceptions. Assist as needed.
Prepares reports on processing activities.
As member of financial aid appeals committee, perform appeal review for professional judgment. Provide additional support as needed to loan and counseling.
Assist in establishing long-term goals and objectives for the department.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Represent LMU within Financial Aid community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.
Minimum 3 years experience in progressively responsible positions in higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: technical documentation, MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Highly developed organizational skills.
Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Banner Financial Aid systems including workflow and self-service.
- Typically a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
