Under the direction of the Maintenance Specialist and the Battleground Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for the sanitation, cleaning and repairs to Monument, facilities and equipment, building and grounds maintenance at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. Assists with training and/or assigning work to volunteers. Provides customer service and security as needed. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

- Completion of 8th grade.
- One year experience performing general cleaning, housekeeping or custodial work.
- If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.
- Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience working with the public;
Experience performing security related duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general maintenance techniques;
Knowledge of general custodial duties;
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures;
Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods;
Knowledge of basic mathematics;
Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals;
Skill in the operation of vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet and dry pickups, automatic scrubbers, carpet shampooers and related custodial equipment;
Skill in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment;
Skill in providing quality customer service in courteous and professional manner;
Skill in training others;
Ability to work as a member of a team;
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;
Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;
Ability to follow park rules and regulations;
Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations;
Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Required to respond to emergency situations;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Must be able to work in environments involving pollen, dust, insecticides, cleaning and preservation materials, potentially dangerous equipment operations, noise, heights, confined spaces, rugged terrain, heavy vegetation, insect/animal hazards, fuels, lubricants, and other potentially hazardous materials using appropriate safety procedures and equipment;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
