Supplier Quality Engineer
This person is responsible to investigate, analyze and resolve supplier quality problems by conducting, assessment audits, surveillance audits, risk assessment, analyzing defect trends, leading supplier continuous improvement projects, supplier performance review. A person who is successful in this role must have a good understanding of AS9100 standard and proficient with the different type of root cause analysis tools and methodology such as, 5 whys, 8D, Fault tree analyses, Pareto analysis.
Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Contract Administration, Program Management, Business Development, other key functions within the Company and customer to resolve supplier quality issues.
" Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate the recurrence of non-conformances" Work with Purchasing to ensure supplier performance regularly reported and that appropriate and timely supplier corrective actions are implemented" Maintain and update critical supplier audit system and schedule" Prepare, and conduct MDSI quarterly supplier performance review" Drive "Zero Defect" Mentality within the supply base" Measure and ensure supplier corrective action effectiveness" Interface with customers as required" Proficient with 5 why, Fault tree analysis, Pareto analysis and implementation as needed" Proficient with statistical techniques, i.e., statistical process control (SPC) " Supplier quality management and supplier process improvement" Supplier initial and risk assessment audits" Supplier surveillance audits" Managing suppliers' quality performance process, including collecting, analyzing and maintaining supplier performance metrics " Collect and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain." Working with the supplier directly, create corrective action plans to address process failures." Review supplier manufacturing processes, collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities." Regularly communicate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering and Supply Chain internally to identify opportunities for supplier quality and improvement." Recommend supplier qualification and disqualification" Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Technical Support to ensure awareness to known purchased part or product quality issues." Perform other studies or duties related to quality as assigned by Director of Quality, the President, or recommended by the V.P of Operations and approved by the President. " Support interface/assistance to the external Customer, Programs /Contracts, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Engineering departments." Excellent knowledge of AS9100 standard, audit and Quality Management Systems Requirements." Must be able to work with minimal supervision." Generally local but may Requires some traveling
Regularly visit suppliers and assist Supply Chain in:" Conducting source inspection" Investigate reported external quality issues that are believed to be purchased" Perform or lead root cause analysis on purchased part or product quality issues and work issue through containment phase of corrective action process." Communicate and instruct suppliers on the use of a corrective action process and quality tools & techniques
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES" Performs or supervise duties such as electronic filing, maintenance of records, purging and destroying obsolete files and all other responsibilities defined by departmental operating procedures and work instructions for the position.
Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S/B.A) from four-year College or university with 10 years Prior Supplier Quality Engineering experience and training. Bachelors of Art or Quality degree.
ASQ Certification and AS9100 auditing certification is a plus. Minimum 10 years' experience in Supplier Quality Assurance. Proficient in root cause analysis tools, such as 5 why, 8D, fault tree, Pareto, PFMEA etc. Strong problem solving skills. Supplier corrective action implementation and verification of the corrective action effectiveness. Experience in developing certified supplier program, certification processes and vendor quality measures. Self-motivated with a high level of initiative. Strong data analysis and reporting skills. Strong interpersonal and customer interface skills. Able to lead and facilitate cross functional teams. Good knowledge of AS9100 Rev C and previous work experience with AS9100 Rev C required.
Knowledgeable and experience with supplier quality assurance. Must have experience in the Defense Industry, particularly in the design and manufacture of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Must be a hands-on person who is willing to perform a variety of tasks.
Computer skills: Proficient in use of MS Office software, Excel. Word, PowerPoint. High skill level and experienced user of Minitab and MS Access. Working knowledge of ERP systems
