Expedia’s Analytics and Revenue Management group, ARM, supports the lodging organization by analyzing business trends, deriving insights, and guiding management’s focus based on findings. Your role serves a critical aim of shaping the organization’s efforts to improve supply breadth and quality.

As an intern Business Analyst, you will work closely with senior analytics managers to help deliver targets and drive the development of business intelligence tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the business and manage high priority transformational projects.

  • Rotations of 6 months’ duration, starting Jan/Feb 2018 and Jun/July 2018

Your daily itinerary:

We are looking for interns to join across two Geneva based teams:

Team 1: Competitive Intelligence

Build information flows to support business execution

  • Understand the data collection processes, related data/databases and how the business is using this intelligence
  • Drive data collection, scheduling and quality control to build up large database of competitive position
  • Develop systems and processes to monitor the quality of data sourced from external vendors
  • Liaise with external providers to report data integrity issues and ensure they are resolved quickly

Dedicatedly analyse information to help navigate the business

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of meaningful data sources and business intelligence
  • Be aware of micro and macro-economic trends and their impact on the business
  • Fulfil ad-hoc requests for data and analysis
  • Help drive business impact through analytical guidance and reporting
  • Illustrate key business trends through effective data interpretation and visualization

Partner with internal customers to understand business needs

  • Establish trust and a collaborative working relationship
  • Provide high level of daily customer service as primary liaison to a large group of internal partners

Team 2: People Analytics and Sales Operations

  • You will develop an approach for assessing the key drivers contributing to demand converting into actual bookings from a given hotel, leading to improvements to our forecasting models for setting targets
  • Interview business partners and review previous analytics to understand the business problem that needs to be solved
  • Form hypothesis on which solutions could be best suited to the problem
  • Design a project plan with clear achievements to ensure deliverables
  • Build a minimal valuable product and discuss findings with partners
  • Iterate on deliverable based on results and feedback
  • Ensure the accuracy and relevance of the team’s deliverables

What we’re looking for in you:

Technical Knowledge:

  • In progress: Bachelor or Master degree in a numerical discipline - Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Statistics or Mathematics preferred. Master/PHD are appreciated
  • Practical experience of analytical work, through analytical tools such as Tableau, Excel, R/Python or other equivalents. SQL, Teradata, Hadoop database querying, exposure to ecommerce is a plus
  • Ability to convert raw data into impactful reports and insights
  • Excellent Excel skills

Problem Solving and Communication:

  • Intellectual curiosity for what drives the business, coupled with active behaviour and desire to innovate
  • Analytical rigor, combined with a problem solver mind-set and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to develop business insights and learn Expedia’s industry
  • Professional written and oral fluency in English
