Incumbent functions as Maintenance and Repair (M&R;) Section Supervisor for Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Healthcare System (NF/SGVHS). This position is located at the Gainesville Division of NF/SGVHS. The incumbent has full responsibility for the supervision of the M&R; Shop Supervisors. He/She is under the direct supervision of the Supervisory General Engineer (Chief Engineer GVL).

Incumbent is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of building service equipment, utility distribution systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, emergency electric generating systems, installation of small equipment and repairs, and maintenance of other items. He/She follows up and ensures compliance with fire/smoke barrier penetration work to ensure penetrations are replaced/sealed and documented as repaired upon completion of work. Conducts inspections to assure quality control of work performed by engineering staff. Conducts, in coordination with NF/SG Safety Officer, life safety inspections and assigns work from such inspections to the appropriate shop. Cooperates and coordinates with the Operations Section Supervisor in the performance of M&R; work, and provides necessary information to the Operations Section as requires. Creates follow up measures on critical or urgent items identified during inspections. Analyzes the physical plant utilities and subsystems for proper maintenance and visually assesses conditions of maintenance/repair activities. Incumbent shall be capable of working independently and required to be on call 24/7 for utility or other facility emergencies. He/She is responsible for compliance with TJC, OSHA, VHA, VACO, DHEC and other local and federal regulations. . Identifies and makes economically sound recommendations concerning equipment systems or facilities maintenance, modernization, or replacement planning. The incumbent provides technical supervision on facilities management issues affecting NF/SG Gainesville and Lake City facilities to include interpreting regulations and codes, and advising as to facilities capabilities and limitations. Due to frequent reorganizations and changes in program activities, continually reappraises building space and activity needs, and develops ways to meet these needs. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length supervisory experience and experience within the Maintenance Occupational Field must be evident. Physical Requirements:This position requires walking, standing, bending, sitting, crawling and climbing. Incumbent must have good vision, with or without glasses. May lift or carry tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Incumbent works in a climate controlled environment but the incumbent may work significant amounts of time in unconditioned areas and project sites and may involve working from ladders, scaffolding, and/or hydraulic platforms. This position requires working in uncontrolled environments, in inclement weather conditions, and in confined or uncomfortable spaces. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant odors. Occasionally is subject to possible dangerous working conditions including exposure to hazards normally encountered in the hospital trades and various types of infections. The incumbent may be subject to electrical shock and/or electrical burns, cuts, bruises and strains. He/She is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.
Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
