General Electric Electric Technician - Norte in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

Role Summary:

Provide assistance in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Thermal Energy Plant equipment, systems and structures. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from maintenance and requiring coordination with operations department.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Use test equipment including, but not limited to: voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, phase indicators, meggers, and oscilloscopes

  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain equipment working from blueprints, sketches and manufacturer's instructions

  • Work safely on assigned systems and equipment with medium and high voltage

  • Troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair switchgear, motor control circuits, lighting circuits, AC VFD’s, AC and DC instrumentation circuits, emergency fire equipment circuits

  • Familiar with the wiring and testing of 480V and 4160V motors

  • Assist in planning and scheduling maintenance and prepares detailed records and reports in a timely manner

  • Comply with information provided on Material Safety Data Sheets for all products. Handles and stores items properly

  • Fabricate repair parts by using machine shop equipment

  • Work independently to ensure operation of plant assets by the timely completion of preventative and condition-based maintenance requirements on furnaces, presses, hydraulic systems, engines, motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions and engineering specifications to trouble shoot malfunctions

  • Plan layout, install, and repair wiring and electrical fixtures

  • Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagram or blueprints

  • Connect wiring to fixtures and power equipment, installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit- breaker panels

  • Connect power cables to equipment, test certainty of circuits and safely of components

  • Perform all work assigned by supervisor in a safe and complete manner

  • Troubleshoot equipment as needed to determine possible problems, isolate trouble and make necessary repairs

  • Available to work as needed to respond to equipment failures or problems associated with central energy plant operation on weekends, holidays, foul weather or other times as needed

  • Attend staff meetings, safety training or meetings, and plant operation and maintenance training courses

  • May perform elevated work, including utilizing scaffolding and personnel lifts. May work in confined spaces

  • May operate cranes, forklifts, and personnel lifts- May work in all weather conditions

  • May work in extreme temperatures, around chemical fumes, biohazards, chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards

  • Ensure compliance with Corporate Safety standards and approved practices for the protection of all personnel

  • Ensure the safe isolation/lock-out and restoration of site equipment

  • Provide continuous monitoring of boilers, turbine/generators, and auxiliary equipment ensuring the safe and reliable operation of plant equipment

  • Supervise the Energy Plant core processes, and initiatives which include: Plant Operations Excellence, Commercial Commitment to Excellence, Energy Plant

  • Standard Compliance, Unit Reliability, Surveillance Testing, Operations Transactions Systems, Utility Group Safety Process, Operations Information Systems

  • Operator Skills Development Process, Environmental Compliance, and the Automated Tagging System

  • Support the HSE Specialist to ensure the facility environmental compliance

  • Monitor and optimize plant performance

  • CMMS experience in the preparation of work instructions and job plans

  • Spare Parts Evaluations for outage planning

  • Monitor inventory levels of chemicals and consumables related to operations to assure adequate supplies are available to maintain operations

  • Skill to train and transfer know-how to new or junior employees

  • Perform/assist in other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related from an accredited university

  • 5+ years experience in energy plant operations

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and manage projects of varying complexity

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Self motivational, and customer service skills

  • Excellent PC Skills

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency

  • Fluent in English and Spanish
