General Electric Chemist Technician - Norte in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

Role Summary:

The Plant Chemist is responsible to ensure a high level of availability, reliability and safety of the water treatment plant and all chemistry related equipment and leads the chemistry related activities in accordance with the terms of the O&M contract and ensures relevant equipment is properly maintained.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implement processes and training for the operations team for the monitoring of chemical condition of the water treatment plant equipment

  • Ensure the proper operation of the water treatment plant and its regeneration process

  • Implement processes and training in the operations team for monitoring the chemical conditions of the HRSG

  • Ensure the proper operation of the water steam cycle chemical dosing equipment

  • In charge of monitoring the chemical conditions of the wastewater and effluent system

  • Monitor the HRSG exhaust gas condition and alert the shift supervisor when necessary

  • Ensure that throughout the power plant all chemical parameters are within healthy condition and advise the shift supervisor or operations manager of any defects and impact on production

  • Issue a work request when necessary

  • Carry out any analytical tests when necessary

  • Proactively seek and implement opportunities to improve the performance of the plant and reduce cost

  • Responsible for the daily activities of the power station chemical laboratory

  • Management of the receipt and storage of all Hazardous Materials and the MSDS registers together with the EHS and Store Keeper function

  • Give input to the Operations Manager for budget preparation

  • Perform additional duties as required


  • Chemical Engineering MSc / BSc degree or equivalent work experience

  • Substantial knowledge of engineering practices, functions and processes involved in the operation and maintenance of a Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP)

  • Knowledge of company safety rules

  • Three years experience in water treatment and process chemistry control

  • Fluent in English and Spanish

  • The jobholder shall be medically fit to undertake the full duties of the post

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of typical legislation associated with CCPP operation and maintenance, specially handling of liquid effluent from the plant

  • Good organisational skills

  • Instrument troubleshooting
