Position Summary

This position requires screening large numbers of factor VIII and factor IX expression cassettes in large groups of animals. This position will perform in-vivo experiments related to the treatment of hemophilia. Factor VIII factor IX activity, factor VIII factor IX protein, and factor VIII factor IX inhibitor assays will be performed, resulting in the required agility to accept or discard candidate vectors as quickly as possible. This position will assist with phlebotomy, sample preparation and storage, and with execution of bleeding challenges, including a joint bleeding challenge model. This position will also be required to develop newer assays of bleeding and clotting that as yet have not been scaled down for use in rodent models, including the saphenous vein bleeding model and assays of resistance to fibrinolysis. Additional duties may include the preparation of samples for and the interpretation of results from bone and joint imaging studies including micro Computed Tomography and the adaptation of newer imaging modalities for the study of bone and joints. This position requires excellent skills with mouse husbandry and handling including tail vein injection, hydrodynamic tail vein injection and retro-orbital sampling. This position will be required to research and write for some publications and grants. The position in this lab requires a team minded attitude, while being able to individually contribute and effectively communicate present their scientific efforts.

Educational Requirements

Ph.D. required in science related field.

Qualifications and Experience

Some knowledge, skills and abilities in molecular biology required. Must be able to work independently. A strong background in molecular biology, virology, or immunology is preferred. Some grant and publication research and writing preferred. Ability to interpret bone pathology and to bring new assays of bone phosphocalcic balance and of gene regulation in bone and cartilage into the lab is strongly preferred.
