UNC Department of Public Safety Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician in Chapel Hill, North Carolina
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is currently seeking a board certified or board eligible Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician to fill an open rank position starting January 2018. We are fortunate to be located in an excellent academic medical center on a vibrant college campus in a wonderful area of the country. The Triangle area of North Carolina is known for “Carolina Blue” skies, temperate weather, some of the best food in the country and a dynamic arts and sports scene. Both the mountains and the beach are easily accessible by car.
The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is a growing and integral part of the Pediatric Department. Our Department and Division take pride in offering multiple opportunities for faculty development and in fostering strong mentoring relationships throughout the University and Medical Center. All division faculty members are expected to perform scholarly work to enhance the academic mission of the division.
Clinical responsibilities include direct patient care in the Pediatric Emergency Department (PED) at UNC Hospitals, as well as teaching and supervising residents from a variety of specialties and learners from various healthcare professions including medical students, PA students, and pediatric dentistry. The PED is open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and serves patients from birth through their nineteenth birthday. Our patients come from all over the state of North Carolina; the UNC PED is a southeast regional referral center for both routine and complex pediatric emergency care and a major gateway to the facilities and services of the NC Children’s Hospital. About one-third of all patients admitted to the NC Children’s Hospital enter through our emergency department. Expert clinicians representing the full complement of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are available 24/7 for consultations. The UNC Emergency Department is designated as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center – one of two in the state and the only one in the Triangle area. As such, pediatric patients with traumatic injuries of varying severity are referred to the Pediatric Emergency Department at UNC from around the state for care.
Experienced Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians, as well as soon to graduate PEM fellows are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have strong clinical skills.
