General Description

NOTE: APPLICANT MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE AT TIME OF EMPLOYMENT. SEASONAL PAID POSITIONS ARE CONTINUOUS POSTINGS FILLED AT VARIOUS TIMES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. This position is responsible for the daily cleaning and housekeeping duties for a State Park. Performs mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting and trash disposal. Restocks cleaning and toiletry supplies. Monitors and maintains grounds and public use areas for litter. May perform minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Qualification Guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Completion of 8th grade.

Experience:

  • Custodian I: No experience required;

  • Custodian II: Six months in areas such as general cleaning, housekeeping or custodial work;

  • Custodian III: One year in areas such as general cleaning, housekeeping or custodial work.

Licensure:

  • If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Graduation from High School or GED.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general cleaning techniques;

  • Knowledge of supply inventory control principles and methods;

  • Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the care and cleaning of buildings, appliances and furnishings;

  • Skill in basic mathematics;

  • Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals;

  • Skill in training others;

  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

  • Skill in using standard office equipment;

  • Skill in making independent, sound, timely decisions;

  • Ability to conduct activities in accordance with agency and park safety program, work rules, and performance standards;

  • Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

  • Ability to maintain written inventory of cleaning supplies, linen supplies, furniture and appliance items and repair requests;

  • Ability to safely mix, use and dispose of cleaning chemicals.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Required to work 10 to 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

  • Hours may be reduced or extended as needed through primary peak season from March to September;

  • Required to adjust to changing schedules;

  • Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

  • Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

  • Must be at least 16 years of age;

  • Must conform to agency work rules, safety program and dress and grooming standards;

  • Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles;

  • This position will fluctuate between part-time and full-time status throughout the term of employment. Changing from part-time to full-time and vice versa may impact the amount of leave accrued and health insurance rates;

  • Position contingent upon funding.
