Purpose

Provide leadership, coordination, and expertise for the planning, development, execution, and post-occupancy assessment of academic construction, renovation, and space management. Ensure the maximum utilization of, and gauge the impact of growth in online coursework on, physical classrooms and facilities.

Essential Functions

Serve as the provost's primary point of contact on academic space planning. Maintain close, standing relationships with Project Management and Construction Services (PMCS), the Master Planning Committee, the Office of the Registrar, the Faculty Building Advisory Committee (C-5), and college/school space planners. Serve as the provost's primary representative between architectural teams, developers, and colleges/schools to ensure pedagogical and research needs are adequately addressed during all phases of academic construction/renovation projects. Coordinate the activities of the University Capital Planning Committee.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's degree in architecture, related-design professions, or other related field. Three to five years of experience in academic space analysis, academic facilities planning, or related field. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with executive leadership, faculty, staff, architectural teams, and planning and construction teams. Ability to compile, organize, and present information derived from a variety of sources to multiple stakeholders. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in architecture, related-design professions, or other related field. Five or more years of experience in academic space analysis, academic facilities planning, or related field. Experience working for or with public research universities in an academic space planning or analysis capacity. Experience working for public institutions or state agencies and familiarity with state regulations around capital projects.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
