Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Transportation Assistant in Augusta, Maine
The position is a Transportation Coordinator at the facility level and acts as a primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The incumbent collaborates with the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the VTS program.

The three major areas of responsibility are: (1) Scheduling, Data Collection, & Tracking Support; (2) Consult Management responsibilities; (3) Program Support responsibilities. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Collecting, compiling, and tracking data and statistical information in support of VTS.
Performing basic analysis of the data and generating a variety of reports.
Collating incoming data fro a variety of sources.
Reviewing documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate.
Coordinating service practices that decrease delays for patients in all specialty areas.
Plans transportation consult processing flow to ensure Veterans receive transportation services in a timely manner.
Provides procedural support in administering quality monitors to be utilized in the internal consultation process.
Responding to action required notifications, insuring the primary providers are correct.
Coordinating the day to day operation of VTS program flow, processes and functions.
Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports.
Makes special arrangements per physician documentation according to traveler's medical condition and/or preference.
Forwards correspondence to receiving facility travel department and/or physician via itinerary or stated preferences with destination and time.
Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs for the purpose of assuring compliance with regulations and procedures.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below: * Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of commercial transportation capabilities to determine appropriate modes of conveyance sufficient to schedule and arrange appropriate transportation in a variety of modes as requested by the medical staff and consistent with the needs of the patient. Utilize policies with regard to patient transport. Calculate and compute transportation charges and related costs claimed by beneficiaries and contract providers and balance accounts. Determine the eligibility and entitlements for services in accordance with established criteria. Utilize computer systems sufficient to enter data, schedule, coordinate and change appointments, post deposit and withdrawal transactions, process reports, and compose corespondence. Audit bills, authorize and prepare vouchers for payment of claims, and to obligate and dispense funds appropriately. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that will required a mature attitude and collective reasoning to overcome. The incumbent is subject to a great deal of stress because of the high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever changing demands due to program changes.
Work Environment: Duties will be predominantly performed in the VTS program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout VA Maine Healthcare System's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there is a prevalent risk of exposure to disease.
There is no educational substitution at this grade level.
