The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services which protect the public health and assist our customers and caregivers in meeting their needs; and that assist families in providing for the developmental, health and safety needs of their children. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHS) Office is responsible for providing leadership and active partnership in Maine’s comprehensive system of support to communities and individuals with substance abuse and mental health condition across the prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery system and across the lifespan. We have a current vacancy in Augusta, ME.

Job Duties:

The Substance Use Disorder Treatment Manager is responsible for planning, directing, implementing and evaluating driver intervention services statewide and overseeing the ten (10) Opioid Treatment Programs (OTP) throughout the state. This position serves as the primary liaison for all substance abuse treatment relationships between SAMHS and community providers of Opioid Treatment Programs (OTP), outpatient Medication Assisted Treatment, Intensive Outpatient (adult), Detoxification substance abuse treatment services and Overdose Prevention Providers; and as the primary linkage between SAMHSA and Opioid Treatment/Medication Assisted Treatment providers statewide. Typical duties include:

• Managing contracts and providing technical assistance are requirements of this position, which includes intermittent statewide travel for contract management and for DEEP.

• Within DEEP, responsibilities include developing and managing therapeutic interventions, specifically addressing the needs of impaired driving offenders;

• Participating in statewide policy development, updating and revising regulations;

• Disseminating best practice standards;

• Managing and supervising DEEP staff.


In order to qualify, you must have a high school diploma, (8) years of education and/or professional experience in substance use disorder/social services to include two (2) years of related program management experience. Licensure in substance use and/or related field preferred.

In order to properly evaluate your experience, you must respond to the following three performance areas.
