The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Air Quality, Division of Resource Administration, has a current vacancy for an Environmental Specialist II.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The position bills for environmental fees, Maine Ground and Surface Waters Clean-up and Response Fund deductibles and seeks cost recovery for programs overseen by the Department. This position interprets applicable environmental laws, rules, regulations, and policies, identifies responsible parties, negotiates and drafts financial settlements and associated documents in order to resolve assigned cases. The position reviews eligible clean-up cost submittals, processes eligible cost reimbursements and represents the Department at administrative proceedings in order to present Department position and investigative findings. The position maintains and updates Department and Section databases for recording and tracking amounts collected and receivable balances. The position prepares account modifications as appropriate so receivables can be promptly closed out. For more information, please contact Christopher Fournier at (207) 287-7860.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
Experience in providing guidance and assistance to potential applicants to federal, state, or local programs.
Experience in processing applications or claims under federal, state, or local requirements.
Experience working with a variety of interested parties, such as other state agencies. the public, municipalities, the regulated community, and legal counsel.
Experience in collections or account management.
Experience in creating, using, maintaining, or updating computerized databases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree which includes 15 credit hours of science or engineering courses – or- a four (4) year combination of education and experience in an environmental science or related area.

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 15.37% of pay,
Value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.13 biweekly
Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:
Level 1: 100% State Contribution = $444.68 biweekly (employee pays nothing)
Level 2: 95% State Contribution = $422.45 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)
Level 3: 90% State Contribution = $400.21 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)
Level 4: 85% State Contribution = $377.98 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)
*The level of actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program.
