This is professional services work in the assistance with development and implementation of programs to facilitate or promote tourism to Maine from domestic and/or international markets. Duties may include assistance with travel trade sales/coordination, product development, web content development, trade and travel show participation, sales and event planning. This position requires in-state and out-of-state travel.


  • Travel Trade and Group Sales – Builds, manages and maintains working relationships specific to Motorcoach tours, with existing marketing/sales contacts via Customer Relationship Management (CMS) system, Business to Business (B2B) events and more. Works collaboratively with, and supports efforts of, the Maine Motorcoach Network. Provides technical assistance to Maine suppliers re: working with the travel trade.

  • Meeting Planners – Works collaboratively with Maine Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVB), supports outreach to domestic meeting planners and coordination with industry for collective approach to increase Maine’s share of the meetings, conferences and events market.

  • Cruise Industry – Works collaboratively with CruiseMaine to assist with cruise industry outreach, marketing and promotion.

  • Product Development – Coordinate development of packages for, provide technical assistance to the industry around building visitor experiences, and develops itineraries.

  • Assists with promotional programs and presentations to hospitality suppliers, industry groups, Chambers of Commerce and other audiences.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned).

  • Knowledge of public strategies and approaches.

  • Knowledge of tourism development activities at the state and local level.

  • Knowledge of destination marketing and sales, as well as knowledge of travel trade, particularly group travel.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to lead presentations in public to various audiences.

  • Ability to perform basic accounting work.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate activities of groups.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to plan and conduct sales and promotional events.


A Bachelors’ Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related field and two (2) years’ work experience in banking, economic development, public relations, sales, or a related area. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preference will be given to those individuals who have experience with public policy and planning, tourism/hospitality, marketing, travel trade and communications, and the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, CMS platforms and Constant Contact.


The value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 15.37% of salary for BU positions.

The value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $13.13 biweekly.

The value* of State-paid Health Insurance:

Level 1: 100% State Contribution (employee pays nothing): $444.68 biweekly

Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%): $422.45 biweekly

Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%): $400.21 biweekly

Level 4: 85% State Contribution (employee pays 15%): $377.98 biweekly

*The level of the actual value of state paid Health Insurance will be based on the employee’s wage rate and status with regard to the health credit premium program as of July 1, 2018.
