Hausa Linguist

Key Role:

Leverage proficiency in the target and English language, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Provide expertise in research, collection, and analysis of the translation of documents, media, and other open and all source material in and from the target language and provide reports in English to address intelligence and national security requirements, as needed. Apply knowledge of cultural and linguistic aspects of the language to provide context to materials. Provide real-time interpretation services, as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

-Ability to read, write, speak, and listen to Hausa in a clear and concise manner

-Ability to transcribe or translate printed and audio Hausa source material and provide analysis and reporting of translated foreign language source material

-Ability to provide foreign language support services, including transcription and translation or interpretation, such as idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to Hausa or vice versa to support military work, intelligence collection, and operational missions

-Ability to perform document scans and research, analyze foreign language documents and data for key information, supplement interpretations and translations with information pertinent and specific to professional fields, including medicine, scientific, engineering, and legal, identify and extract information components meeting military information requirement list criteria, and provide input on reports

-Ability to provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations, interpretations, and transcriptions with an expert linguist’s opinion given to the supported organization or agency as to the most likely meaning or intent of terms, phrases, or statements that may have multiple valid interpretations

-Ability to perform shift work

-Ability to achieve 3/3 IRL in the target language, including level 3 for reading and listening on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) 5 point scale and English

-TS/SCI clearance

-HS diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with INSCOM or a regional operation center

-Experience with SIGINT or geospatial mission functions
