Sr. Accountant

Federal Contractor with multi-state construction operations is seeking a highly organized and detail oriented Senior Accountant. This position has key responsibilities in supporting monthly financial statement preparation process including identification and entry of journal entries, timely account reconciliations, maintaining fixed asset records, project cost accounting, and supervision of accounting staff. This position works independently utilizing time needed to support responsibilities for work involving multiple deadlines and changing priorities. Successful candidate must be able to operate in a complex reporting structure encompassing several joint ventures and subsidiary companies and as such, will have to navigate multi-company relationships. This position will report administratively to the Controller. This is a great opportunity to join a fast-growing SBA 8(a) company.

For this position, Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, contribution statements for all related entities as well as consolidating statements according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in an accurate and timely manner, reporting key operating statistics as requested;

  • Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas;

  • Assist with preparation of special analysis and informational report;

  • Assist with Job-cost tracking, project status reports and billing;

  • Support proposals;

  • Generate payment requests and invoices;

  • Prepare daily cash flow reporting of banking activity;

  • Maintain the inter-company accounts and keep reconciled with related entity;

  • Reconcile accounts of receivables, payables, bad debt allowance, bank accounts, and other general ledger accounts;

  • Determine that payroll accounting is properly reconciled and that labor costs are properly charged to projects and ultimately billed appropriately;

  • Supervise accounting staff, if necessary, and provide recommendations regarding mentoring, training, performance evaluations, salary changes, promotions and disciplinary actions;

  • Assist accounting staff when needed to meet deadlines or goals;

  • Assist with the duties associated with year-end audits by financial and government contracting audit agencies;

  • Assist with implementation of new accounting system policies and procedures as needed;

  • Coordinate and maintain fixed asset records and associated depreciation schedules for book and tax purposes;

  • Serve as the primary contact for health, property and liability insurance issues;

  • Coordinate the year-end review with independent auditors;

  • Supervise & assist with payroll related items;

  • Prepare all city, state and county sales, excise, property and mileage tax returns and payments;

  • Assist with the annual filing of federal and state income tax returns;

  • Work on special projects as requested;

  • Performs other related duties in the Accounting Department as required and assigned.

Requirements for the position include the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business;

  • 5+ years of project accounting experience;

  • Advanced MS Office Excel skills;

  • General understanding of the construction industry and construction contracts;

  • Ability to multi-task in an organized manner on a daily basis with variable deadlines;

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, clear and concise;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, analytical skills and organizational skills;
