Sutter Health Manager Respiratory Therapy Full Time Day Shift in Antioch, California


The Respiratory Therapy Manager has 24 hour operational responsibility to assure the appropriate departmental staffing and delivery of quality patient care. The manager is accountable to develop and achieve established hospital standards of care through effective staffing, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation of policies, procedures and objectives. The manager coaches, counsel, disciplines and recognizes/rewards staff performance. In this role s/he is responsible for staff hiring, orientation, development and education. Participates in clinical committees and activities related to departmental operations. Recommends change in policy, programs and physical resources required to achieve the hospital's objectives. The manager works in collaboration with other department managers, administration, the medical staff, and auxiliary to meet hospital strategic objectives that promote a safe work environment that is patient focused.


Education :

  • Associate's Degree Required

  • Bachelor's Health Sciences/Business or equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred

  • Master's Health Sciences/Business or equivalent combination ofeducation and experience Preferred

Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a progressively responsible management/leadership position, preferably in a comparable size acute care facility required

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership of personnel and strong interpersonal skills required

  • Familiar with various approaches to patient care delivery, applying relevant clinical concepts and standards of practice required

  • Proven experience and ability in managing multi-disciplinary patient care services preferred

  • Previous experience in the development and implementation of routine and special projects and services preferred

  • Prior experience working in a labor union environment, with an understanding of contractual issues preferred

  • Budgeting and financial planning experience that includes the utilization of productivity measurement tools preferred

  • Knowledgeable about healthcare law, JCAHO, Federal, State and local regulations and standards preferred

Licensures & Certifications :

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner - RCP Required

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist - RRT Required

  • Basic Life Support Certification - BLS Required

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider - NRP Required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support - ACLS Required

  • Pediatric Adv Life Support - PALS Required

Skills & Knowledge :

  • Ability to plan, lead, organize, control and promote a team approach and spirit of continuous quality/performance improvement

  • Experience and expertise in Respiratory Therapy with an emphasis in Critical Care, Pulmonary Function and Arterial Blood Gases

  • Must be able to coach, develop and teach others, and to communicate clear and consistent expectations

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Analytical skills and ability to understand statistical reports

  • Computer skills

  • Oversight and general knowledge of Pain Management procedures
