Systems Engineer - Speech Recognition

In this role the Speech Recognition Systems Engineer will be part of the Infotainment Systems Engineering organization working within the Enabling Features and Core Technology team.

In this role the Speech Recognition engineer will create detailed requirements for technical implementation of speech recognition features/functions. Interact across organizations to ensure speech recognition features/functions are integrated effectively into the vehicle. Work with suppliers to implement new speech recognition features/functions. Lead advanced development work around new speech recognition features/functions.

Specific Speech Recognition responsibilities:

  • Identify, communicate, and deliver on technical speech recognition roadmap
  • Development of global engineering requirements for speech recognition
  • Support tier 1 and 2 development of the speech recognition technology into GM products
  • Advanced development work in the speech recognition domain
  • Development, testing, and optimization of speech and data modeling algorithms and improvements of speech recognition accuracy
  • Build and maintain relationships across the speech recognition ecosystem community

Areas of expertise : Speech Recognition, Text-To-Speech (TTS), Natural Language Understanding, Speech Dialog and HMI Development, Speech Software Architecture, Evaluation and Validation of Speech Recognition at component and vehicle level, Digital Signal Processing, Project Management.

Working knowledge preferred in the following domains :: phone, navigation, media, infotainment/telematics architecture, microphone and vehicle acoustics, in-vehicle networking protocols such as Ethernet, CAN and MOST.

Basic Required:

  • Understanding of automotive infotainment system operation
  • Experienced with embedded automotive modules
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
  • Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: BSE, BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

Basic Preferred:

  • Prototyping experience
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
