The Senior Long Term Planning Engineer is responsible for providing long term strategies with primary focus on reserve estimation, Life of Mine Schedules, budgets and capital projects. The position operates in an environment that focuses on safe, cost-effective production; technical excellence and reports directly to the Technical Services Superintendent.

Essential Duties

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the latest versions of the mine planning software required to support Newmont’s life of mine planning, resource evaluation and business planning processes.

  • Demonstrate an ability to complete robust economic evaluations to differentiate between different mining options or projects.

  • Supervise and compile the development of the life of mine plan according to the site strategic plan using the latest reserve estimate or as new resource studies are completed.

  • On a quarterly basis determine whether the medium term activities are aligned with the long term plan and recommend appropriate action to mitigate areas of concern.

  • Supervise and compile the long-term conceptual mine development and stoping designs outside the 36 month business plan window.

  • Evaluate new opportunities to improve the confidence in the long term sustainability of the operation.

  • Indentify the changes required to the planned fleet size, manning levels, services and infrastructure to achieve the life of mine plan.

  • Provide the information such as Reserve/Resources, development physicals and financials to stakeholders in accordance with Newmont’s Business Planning Process requirements.

  • Develop and review all Mine Planning procedures.

  • Monitor capital development and other capital expenditure on a monthly basis to track compliance with the business plan.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary Qualification – Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) or equivalent

  • First Class Managers Ticket or experience necessary to obtain

  • 5+ Years Underground experience

  • 5+ Years’ experience as a Short/Medium Term Planning Engineer or

  • 5+ Years’ experience as a Drill and Blast Engineer

  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy

  • Detailed knowledge of Mine Planning Software

Working Conditions

Newmont’s Tanami Operations is a fly in and fly out mine site is located in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory.

The position is a site based role offered on a fly in / fly out basis from Perth, Darwin or Alice Springs on a 8/6 roster. The role will require an initial period based at Newmont’s Subiaco regional office to enable requisite training in the life of mine processes to be undertaken with the operations planning and support team.

The role is offered on a Fixed Term basis for 12 months.
