The Engineer in Training assists the Northern California Engineering Department and Oldcastle Precast facilities with various engineering and technical projects as well as continuous improvements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing new products and/or modifying current ones, per specifications and customer requirements. He/she will be responsible to review and create drawings, plus other technical documents and will work closely with Marketing, Sales, Production and Quality Control.

Essential Duties

  • Assist the Sales Department performing engineering designs in support of estimates, submittal packages and production of metal and concrete products.

  • Perform CAD drafting and 3D modeling using AutoCAD and ACAD Inventor or equivalent software.

  • Work with Plant Manager on manufacturing improvement projects, including process flow, material handling, automation, and other similar productivity and safety enhancements.

  • Work with Quality Control department to provide critical inspection features/dimensions with tolerances to production personnel and QC inspectors and to ensure adherence to the Oldcastle Quality Control Program.

  • Assist Quarterly Quality Control reviews.

Qualifications (Education/Experience) and Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

  • EIT Certification.

  • Previous engineering work experience preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications, and be able to perform submittal drawings and structural designs.

  • Knowledge and experience with metal and concrete design.

  • Ability to use and interpret Building Codes, including ACI, IBC, ASSHTO, and AISC.

  • Ability to use a variety of computer programs, including AutoCAD, 3D CAD Inventor software, and Microsoft Office Products.

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

  • Self-starter, detail oriented, and motivated with ability to plan and schedule projects to meet required deadlines.

  • Ability to interact with customers, managers, engineers, drafters and other employees to resolve engineering and management related issues.
