We are currently searching for a highly motivated Retail Buyer who will develop business strategies and assortment plans for assigned categories in order to maximize the presentation of the brand and achieve sales and margin business unit goals, identify opportunities and recommend new product and/or vendors for the department and trade, as well as collaborate with Planning to develop plans and forecasts.

  • Perform market analysis, competitive shopping and analysis of trends to keep abreast of current trends and identify emerging trends.

  • Maintain relationships, resolve issues and conduct negotiations with vendors and agents.

o Negotiate costs, terms, RTV’s, discounts, staff incentives

o Obtain marketing, markdown and event money

o Ensure vendors adhere to production and shipping timelines

  • Develop brand enhancing and high quality product. Provide brand assets, develop creative briefs and approve vendor creative. Approve pre-production and production samples.

  • In collaboration with Planning, develop assortment plans by ship and trade. Utilize recommended SKU counts and ship feedback.

  • Develop on-board event plans. Support corporate marketing strategies. Partner with Marketing, Brand Management on development and Retail Operations on execution.

  • Ensure achievement of financial plan for assigned categories. In partnership with Sr Buyer and Planning, determine and execute course corrections.

o Participate in monthly OTB process.

o Identify opportunities to maximize sales and margin.

o Participate in monthly OTB process.

o Highlight risks; propose and execute mitigation activities.

o Ensure reorders are places for key and core items.

o Escalate unresolved issues.

  • Develop assortment plans.

  • Determine disposition of exiting inventory.

  • Work with Visual Planner on product presentation. Obtain support from vendor community if necessary.

  • Responsible for vendor maintenance including set up, communication related to order confirmation, new supplier payment procedures and credit requests for damages.

  • In partnership with Logistics, ensure product moves throughout the pipeline on time and in a cost efficient manner. Take leadership role in security clearance, air freight requests and justifications.

  • In partnership with Corp Planning and Retail Ops, develop and execute processes for transactional activities that ensure data integrity. Comply with SOX regulations.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2+ years retail management and buying experience in specialty retail.

  • Ability to evaluate financial and business metrics and translate the data into actionable ideas and events; proficient in retail math.

  • Ability to create and organize work and processes to get things done in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Capacity to think objectively and interpret quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Ability to use logic to solve problems and determine effective solutions.

  • Proficient in EXCEL and able to learn technical applications quickly.

  • Capability to build constructive relationships with diverse business partners.

  • Strong listening, written, and oral communication skills.
