The Red Hat North America Revenue Accounting team is seeking a Manager, Revenue Accounting to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and compliance activities of the North America Revenue Accounting team as related to the risks involved with complex revenue arrangements. You'll need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with other groups both inside and outside of the Finance team, including Bid Desk, Sales, Legal, Project Accounting, Sales Operations, IT Support, and product owners. We will need you to be highly motivated with creative problem solving and analytical skills, as well as a basic understanding of accounting principles under U.S. GAAP, especially as it relates to revenue recognition.
Primary job responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day functions of the North America Revenue team
Prepare review of detailed revenue recognition checklists on significant and complex revenue contracts
Review period-end close process by preparing account reconciliations and journal entries
Work with the Project Accounting team in setting up and reviewing services projects to ensure appropriate revenue recognition
Review annual VSOE study as it relates to historical price studies for our services offerings
Ensure compliance with internal controls and processes to ensure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley policies in the order to cash process
Communicate with quarter-end external audit
Review complex deal structures to ensure compliance with revenue recognition guidelines
Work closely with other departments inside and outside of Finance on special projects as needed
Bachelor's degree in accounting; master's degree is a plus
6+ years of accounting experience; technical accounting experience is an advantage
Experience with SOP 97-2 (ASC 985-605), software revenue recognition
Knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Active CPA license
Excellent interpersonal skills
Willingness to work extra hours during quarter-end and other high-volume times when necessary
Experience at a Big 4 or other global public accounting firm is a plus
Experience with Hyperion and Oracle is a plus
