Duties

Prepare and section frozen rodent brain tissue and conduct immunohistochemical procedures followed by microscopic documentation of results. Oversee colony of transgenic rats, including breeding and genotyping using PCR. Induce anesthesia and conduct moderately complex aseptic and non-aseptic surgery on experimental rats and assist other surgeons. Assemble and process data sets using spreadsheet (Excel or similar) and digital image processing software (Photoshop or similar). Conduct various functions necessary for daily maintenance of the lab, such as ordering supplies, contacting suppliers, and overseeing work of undergraduate students. Conduct literature searches.Contingent upon Funding.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience or biochemistry and 1 to 3 years of relevant research lab experience, including working with rodent (rat/mice) species, immunohistochemistry and microscopy or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Experience with aseptic and non-aseptic small animal surgery. Proficiency with the use of word-processing, spreadsheet and image processing software. Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Orientation to detail and ability to prioritize daily and weekly tasks and apply sound scientific reasoning. Position contingent upon extramural grant funding.
