Research Specialist A will perform biochemical assays as part of a lead optimization program on a target related to bacterial antibiotic resistance and also perform microbiological assays on laboratory or clinical bacterial strains. S/he will be responsible for executing experiments independently after training, collation and analysis of data and presentation of results. The specialist will work closely with graduate and post-doctoral students in the laboratory to perform studies which support overall lab’s overall aims and s/he may be responsible for other general laboratory duties. A high level of organization, technical proficiency, efficiency and ability to multi-task are all important.Research Specialist B position will undertake the duties outlined above, with the additional expectation that the candidate will develop novel assays for addressing the same research questions. Moreover, it is expected that the RS-B candidate will have a greater laboratory experience than the RS-A candidate, such that s/he can make greater contributions to more complex biochemical or microbiological studies.Position is contingent on continued funding.
Research Specialist A: BA/BS in Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational or research experience with biochemistry is preferred. Experience with standard microbiological techniques is preferred. Experience with general laboratory techniques is required.Research Specialist B: Same as above with a requirement for a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
