Duties

Research specialist position in Dr. David Wolk’s Laboratory within the Department of Neurology and the Penn Memory Center at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Wolk’s lab examines the cognitive and neural changes associated with various stages of neurodegenerative disease, specifically Alzheimer’s disease. We examine these changes using a variety of novel and commonly used diagnostic techniques such as MRI, PET/CT, lumbar punctures and cognitive memory testing. We also participate in industry-supported therapeutic and biomarker studies in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease. Finally, we collaborate closely with the Penn Frontotemporal Degeneration Center and projects may include on-going projects with Dr. Corey McMillan. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, subject recruitment and scheduling, data collection (involving the above mentioned procedures) and preparation for analysis, regulatory submissions, as well as ensuring lab adherence to IRB and FDA regulations. Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree with coursework or research experience in the following fields: cognitive psychology, neuroscience, computer science and statistics and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Facility with Microsoft Excel (and all basic Windows programs) is required and experience with patient testing, SPSS, E-Prime, and programming is also required. The candidate must be reliable, hard-working, able to work independently, and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Must pass Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Act (also known as Act 73) background checks, within 30-90 days of employment.
