Duties

Wharton Computing wants you to take our Public Computing experience to the next level. Hate doing anything when you can script it using PowerShell and Python? Enjoy learning new systems and helping people to unravel complex, technical puzzles? You’re just what we’re looking for: a creative thinker who works with minimal supervision and helps us provide the highest level of technical support for client systems located in our classrooms/computer labs/group study areas. Plus, you’ll get to work on additional projects with other technologies as required.The successful applicant must be able to provide professional customer service and expert technical support to staff (and occasionally to faculty and students) with varied levels of technology awareness. Activities will include: working alone and with colleagues to develop and maintain scripts for automating tasks, procedures, and reports using PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting tools; becoming a technology expert for Wharton Computing in the areas of desktop imaging, Microsoft Windows 7, and Microsoft Office 365; supporting Wharton’s digital signage infrastructure; assisting in the resolution of client, server, network, and multimedia hardware/software issues affecting public and classroom computers; implementing and following up on security best practices; helping to manage a complex printing environment including supporting printer maintenance, enterprise printing software and user printing issues; participating in a regular on-call rotation schedule; joining select project teams and performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree and 1 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.The successful candidate will have proven abilities in computer hardware/software troubleshooting, strong organizational and communications skills, and a drive to provide the highest level of customer service. Applicants must have the ability to work independently, but must also be able to collaborate/communicate effectively as a member of a team when assigned to a project; the ability to work well under conditions of stress and rapid change; the ability to work extended hours, including occasional nights and weekends for on-call or project requirements; and must be physically able to lift and carry 50 lbs.Applicants are expected to have prior experience administering Windows 7 clients, Windows server products, and Office 365. They must be familiar with disk imaging software (WDS/MDT strongly preferred), software package deployment, print management (Pharos printing experience is a plus), Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, and DFS/Windows share permissions. Also necessary are a solid understanding of networking basics (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.), and security fundamentals and best practices. This position will involve creating/maintaining scripts for automation of routine tasks, so familiarity with PowerShell, Python or similar scripting tools is important. Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas, as well, will be strongly preferred: supporting computing in a higher-education environment; managing physical and virtualized servers and VDIs (VMWare View in particular); familiarity with SAN/NAS solutions; experience with SQL 2008 or later; experience with IBM BigFix scripting; experience with multimedia devices and software; familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred). ITIL and project management experience are also desirable.
