Bayer Global Production Specialist in Parma, Idaho

Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Global Production Specialist, are to:

  • Production Plan Execution: Plan and monitor the execution of the production quantities. Specifically divide production volumes at the variety level between production areas in alignment with Production Diversification model;

  • Audit/advise the regional team on crop production protocols through field visits to the areas and regular meetings and communication. Act as expert technical support for seed production issues to the areas including isolations, rotations, cultural practices, harvest and post-harvest activities;

  • Approve seed contract conditions in each production area with special emphasis on grower pricing and quality standards. Challenge grower contract proposals which do not meet minimum business margin objectives. Work with Cost of Cultivation model and the local/regional production department to ensure competitiveness of grower contracts. Define variety/area specific crop base yield rates for planning and costing purposes;

  • Approve final settlement of the production contracts (accept and reject) in case productions are not meeting the set standards;

  • Monitor and review all seed crops within the different regions, including a season end analysis which would include seed crop costs, reliability against plan, and root cause analysis with corrective action measures for those productions outside of the plan tolerances. Support grower base analysis and selection using performance information;

  • Manage the production planning of stock seeds to prevent production shortage against future production plans. Monitor stock seed quality and ensure that stock seeds are sufficiently high quality to be used for commercial productions and are free from seed borne diseases and genetic contaminants. Support on time shipment of compliant stock seed to production areas prior to sowing window;

  • Advise to Global Production Strategy Manager area crop performance and costs and support decisions to adjust seed crop divisions (production volumes) between production areas to optimize production cost and performance at desired levels;

  • Ownership for produceability information and parent line descriptions (Centralized Variety Database) of new and existing varieties. Data to be used to improve production reliability reduce costs and make decisions to elevate varieties based on estimated cost and ability to be consistently supplied to customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field;

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in seed production, preferably vegetable seed;

  • Knowledge of growing practices for assigned crops;

  • Familiarity with production research practices and field plot techniques;

  • Ability to balance the needs of the company with the requirements and demands of third party/grower contractors. Possess ability to negotiate regarding contract pricing and terms with both internal and external stakeholders;

  • Strong command of written and spoken English;

  • Good communication skill and ability to work well with others. Must be comfortable working in a divers multi-national and global environment;

  • Computer competency in Microsoft Word and Excel and comfort with larger business systems like Movex or SAP;

  • Should have strong skills in Analyzing, Performance and Operational Excellence and be able to share Global Operations Strategy;

  • Must be able to participate in and lead Global Production Projects;

  • Must be able to travel internationally at 25% of time for field inspections and production area support.
