YMCA of Greater Omaha Youth Sports Director in Omaha, Nebraska

The Director of Youth Sports is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high quality YMCA Youth Sports Programs at the YMCA of Greater Omaha, in order to maintain a large and active membership base.

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff to achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings as well as training meetings for volunteer coaches.

  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules, sports rules, guidelines and handbooks; trains and schedules sports

  • Organizes and host sports clinics, parties, and special

  • Ensures field and court quality met through direct physical maintenance by the Sports Director

  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards in addition to coordinating team

  • Oversees marketing and distribution of program

  • Manages the data collection and reporting of the programs through Daxko Operations and PlayerSpace.

  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position.

  • Ensures program operates with budget and that program fees are collected.

  • Provides mid-month and year-end forecasting

  • Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenues targets are met and expenses are controlled.

  • Compiles program Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in the program.

  • Guarantees 100% compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.

  • Develop yearly Performance Plans with supervisor and implement strategy. (The incumbent is responsible to have a performance plan in place 15 days of hire and each year based on Association timeline.

  • Actively recruits and participates in Strong Communities

  • Provides branch support through Manager on Duty nights and weekends.

  • All other duties

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • On-site attendance is required of this Nights and weekends are required as part of directing the youth sports program.

  • Possess solid knowledge on a variety of sports.

  • Ability to manage a large group of volunteers.

  • Emphasis on relationship building with positive outcomes related to volunteer coach and staff retention.

  • Ability to work through knowledge and execution skills of the Branch’s emergency procedures.

  • Ability to deal effectively with all members of the staff, board, and general public, and to assist in the proper resolution of all questions/complaints.

  • Ability to develop work plans, timelines, schedules, assign accountability, and track progress of assigned

  • Strong management skills, analytical skills and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate, both oral and written.

  • Must possess maturity, sound judgment, management and organizational skills, and human relations This position requires essential skills in interpersonal relationships, written and oral communications, and high attention to detail.

Experience, Education and Certification(s):

  • Must complete within 30 days of hire or have completed training in the following areas; Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and Blood-borne

  • Budget and supervisory experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience

  • One to two years related experience preferred

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Office/recreational environment.

  • Intermittent sitting, standing, walking are required.

  • Individual must possess sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.

  • Individual will be working in both indoor and outdoor sport settings and be responsible for physically maintaining these areas.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Travel among locations is required.
