Title: VUMC Diagnostic Histotechnology Laboratory Supervisor

The Team Leader has overall autonomy for management of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's nightly diagnostic histotechnology laboratory. This scope of responsibility includes effectively leading a team of nine laboratory professionals and operational accountability for insuring proper laboratory services are delivered in a timely and high quality manner.

Ultimately, the Team Leader defines performance standards and manages processes that produce consistent outcomes which meet and exceed quality and regulatory standards. The Team Leader plans, coordinates and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in testing and implements new technology. In support of the Medical Laboratory Scientist programs, the Team Leader appropriately assign's laboratory professionals to serve as instructors for the primary training of the MLS students. Additionally, the Team Leader collaborates with Research and Fellows In Training as necessary.

b. Supervises personnel, selects new employees, assures staff are properly trained and meet competencies, identifies training needs, responsible for performance evaluation.

c. Develops and implements quality control/assurance program, including appropriate proficiency testing and peer review standards.

d. Responsible for maintaining all required activities and documents to assure compliance with both regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to this laboratory.
