This is position is located in DHS/U.S. Coast Guard, Director of Operational Logistics, Base Miami Beach, Naval Engineering Department, Industrial Production Facility, Miami, FL

Duties

The incumbent performs electrician work in support of the US Coast Guard (USCG), Naval Engineering Support Unit, Industrial Operations Division, which involves the repair, alteration, modification, testing, installation and checking of all types of electrical equipment and evaluating circuitry required to power the equipment of USCG shore and ship units.

Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Involving installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Installing all types of electrical equipment such as motors, generators, converters, inverters, alternators, frequency modulators, transformers, controllers, and switchboards.
  • Installing wire or cables of all sizes and the mechanical protection required by code.
  • Installing various types of control and alarm systems.
  • Articulating and communicating to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review and deadlines and timeframes for completion.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:

  • Ability to Lead or Supervise (Screen out Element)
  • Knowledge of Electrical Equipment.
  • Theory and Instruments (Electrical) used in Shop and Trade Practices.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Ability to use Electrical Drawings.
  • Ability to use and maintain hand tools (Electrical Work).
  • Trouble shooting (electrical). National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
