This position will support Apria’s Legal Department in managing claims and litigation.
This paralegal will work closely with in-house counsel and will have direct contact with business partners in Human Resources, Clinical Compliance, Operations, and Logistics, as well as outside counsel.
Requisite skills include the abilities to: function effectively in a fast-paced environment; prioritize tasks; and, communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
Assist in-house counsel with investigating and managing claims and litigation from initial intake through disposition including: gathering, reviewing, and summarizing records; interviewing witnesses; handling insurance reporting; retaining and managing outside counsel; drafting and reviewing discovery responses; calendaring; and tracking progress.
Manage the Legal Hold Order process for all claims and litigation.
Serve as administrator of the Legal Department’s matter management, legal hold, and billing system.
Manage certain customer/patient billing disputes, including attorney general complaints and small claims cases, by coordinating research of the account, drafting/revising written responses, coordinating settlements, and preparing employees to appear in small claim court when necessary.
Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Education or experience equivalent to a four year college degree is required.
Paralegal certification or equivalent legal training is required.
At least five years experience handling litigation-related matters is required.
Proficiency in MS Office products is required.
Experience with Access, CounselLink, NRAI service of process website and/or knowledge of healthcare/insurance-related billing procedures is desired.
